Are you one of those houses? You know the kind. The kind of house that someone automatically thinks a herd of cats in habit the place when entering. Not the cute little kittens that flood our Facebook wall either. It’s the stinky, “what goes on in here” kind of alley cat that comes to mind.
Well it’s not the cat, because cats are very clean. You know what it is – it’s the dreaded litter box. No one wants their house to smell, much less smell like litter box odor. And chances are you can’t even smell it anymore. But it’s there!
Even the cats can’t stand the smell of their own litter box. Did you know that there are actual studies that show at least 10% of cats stop using their litter box at some point due to the smell. How they figured this out, I’m not sure but it’s true … I read it on the internet.
Well here are some home remedies for helping control the litter box blues and get your house back to smelling brand new.
Frequent Litter Box Cleaning
And by frequent, I mean every day. Plan to scoop out every day and replace the litter twice a week – at least
Baking soda is natural deodorizer that will not harm your cat. Just add the baking soda to the bottom of the litter box before filling it will litter.
White Vinegar and Water
White vinegar also works as an effective deodorizer and disinfectant. When you replace the litter, wipe out the litter box with a mixture of vinegar and water. Let it air dry before re-filling. Sure the smell is off-putting at first but it will dissipate quickly.
Make sure the litter box is in a space with proper air flow. I know you really want to hide the litter box in the back corner of the back room. You can hide it but you won’t hide the smell. If it doesn’t get proper air flow, the air will eventually become heavy with the litter box smell.
These tips will help your house smell better. Yes, they are a bit of a pain and it will take some effort, but isn’t a clean smelling house worth it?
I can already hear what you are saying:
I won’t have time (or I will just plain forget) to scoop the litter box every day
Change the litter box every day? No way is that going to happen.
If that sounds like you, then OdorZout Cat Litter Additive Powder is the product for you. It’s odor free, meaning no perfume-like smell and it doesn’t cover up or mask the odors. It actually disinfects and eliminates litter box odors – and all the other odors in the room too!
Just lightly (and I mean lightly) sprinkle a bit of the powder underneath the littler and a little on top. Do this every time you change or add litter to the litter box. The great thing is it works with any kind of litter and you will notice a change immediately! Available on Amazon.
